DESCRIPTION

Coaching, Consulting & Plan Implementation

Most of our clients are professionals or entrepreneurs who don’t have extensive background in management – they have been focusing on developing excellent products and services – and just getting going! Their businesses typically are missing key management and operational structures – i.e., job functions, processes, routines, etc. – from one, if not all, of the functional business areas (sales & marketing, operations, financial, HR) to support their current sales volume and/or the sales in their next growth phase. This situation is often accompanied by gaps in the key management skills necessary for effectively managing their companies. The Consulting/Coaching for Growth Program organizes, prioritizes, and addresses all of these gaps.

When you enter the Consulting/Coaching for Growth Program, we start by creating a Consulting/Coaching Project Plan, in which we identify all your long-term and short-term goals, along with the structures, processes, and skill sets needed for your company to have the success you seek. We organize and prioritize all these goals, skills and structures into a Growth Project Manager – a customized, “quick-and-dirty” growth plan that allows us to get working on the acute needs of the business, after only several meetings. The acute needs are typically dealing with crises, chaos, cash needs or, minimally, owner overwhelm. Work prioritization is often initially determined by what will give the client the most “bang for their buck” immediately – that which will have an immediate effect on cash, sales, and the organization’s capacity to deliver products and services. In weekly coaching meetings, after acute needs are addressed, we settle into a more measured pace – eventually implementing all necessary projects and processes and developing necessary skills as we simultaneously focus on meeting all key business financial goals.

TESTIMONIAL

What our clients say...

“I hired Kathleen Askier at the 5½ year mark of our business. At that time, we were ‘wildly successful’ by industry standards. The overwhelming majority of martial arts schools go out of business within the first 3 years of operation and we, by contrast, had been growing—we had around 300 happy students, a great reputation and were continuing to grow. On the inside though, I was tiring. I was working very long hours, making my way through a difficult situation at home and at the same time, bringing on and training a new partner. On top of that, the growth and organization of the small team of employees had been happening without an eye for sustainable strategy. We lacked formality and structure behind the scenes that had already begun to impede the health of our business and our ability to grow sustainably.

I needed someone to help me with the fundamentals of business, with creating a working culture among our staff and with creating systems to organize and track data so we could accurately project results and create a long-term plan for it all to fit into.

Ms. Askier’s impact was immediate, including that we increased our cash flow within the first 60 days to a threshold surpassing her fees. We have continually improved in every identifiable way from the day we started with her six years ago. We operate from a long-term business plan that is driven by mission and vision statements, company values and objective priorities. Overall there is a sense of stability and predictability that has become the norm now under Ms. Askier’s guidance. As a result of all of this, our quality of life is high. We enjoy coming to work. We enjoy being successful and being able to carry out our mission with confidence and dependability.”

“Finally, we have created a vision statement that strongly, clearly states our purpose, our values, and our next big set of goals. We owe a lot of thanks to you for all your coaching, teaching, and consulting to help make our dreams become a reality.”

Business Planning & Plan Development

Either strategic or operational – stand-alone service or integrated with the Coaching Program – day-long or multi-day formats. Typically conducted after clients make adequate progress in their growth plan, after they are out of “crisis mode” and have begun to get traction with their project, and they need to be functioning off of something more substantial than the “quick-and-dirty” project manager. Occasionally, clients start their coaching engagement with a multiple-day planning engagement. Many clients opt to have a planning retreat each year.

TESTIMONIAL

What our clients say...

“Our situation would be typical of many small businesses that have been in existence for over 34 years — we continued to change in the way that we approached our customers but we still operated our business as we had in the past. With Kathleen Askier's help we were able to develop a business plan that incorporated yearly goals for the current business, a plan for new business development and a long range plan. She showed us how to keep tracking information that normally was 60 days old updated weekly. This information was used to achieve quarterly goals that kept us in position to attain our yearly goals. This coupled with budgeting controls will help our company grow into the future.”

Management Development

Essential for Plan achievement.

TESTIMONIAL

What our clients say...

“We already had a successful law practice, but we did not know how to manage a business. Through our work with Kathleen Askier, we accomplished a reduction in staff turnover, established and maintained hiring skills and practices, implemented a performance review system, and instituted regular staff meetings. Ms. Askier also worked diligently with us to create a system for handling errors and problems as they arose, before they festered and became global problems in the office. 'Team' became present which allowed the entire staff to focus on and achieve company priorities.”

Sales Training & Development

Stand-alone program or integrated into the Consulting/Coaching Program. Many clients are not able to make the progress they want because they cannot consistently meet their sales forecasts. This in turn significantly impedes hiring efforts – how can you hire additional people when you don’t know whether you can pay them? And this is just the beginning – if you buy that piece of equipment you need, will you continue to have the sales to pay the people you have? Learning how to achieve sales targets and making them consistently gives owners the confidence to invest in resources – necessary staff, equipment and other expansion needs. Essential for all clients who want to grow and don’t already consistently meet their sales targets. Training and skill development available for all Sales Pipeline stages and more.

What our clients say...

“With the advent of new and diverse competition in the wholesale grocery industry, we deemed it necessary to have an outside firm come in and take a look at what we were doing and what we needed to do in order to change and grow in the marketplace. Kathleen Askier came into our company and went right to work. She worked closely with both myself and our sales manager in overhauling the operations of our sales department. She also spent some time studying the overall operations of our company, making recommendations that have since been implemented. Today, our sales force is setting and meeting sales targets and objectives, and our company is in a growth mode that has brought about a positive attitude throughout the workforce.”

Partner Relations Work

Stand-alone retreats and/or meetings integrated into the Coaching Program. Business Partners often have different visions for the company, different goals for the company, and different ways they want to run the company. For partners who are at this impasse, there is nothing more frustrating nor excruciating. Partner retreats provide a supportive environment for resolving disputes, and create the partner alignment necessary to get on with the business of running the company. Foundational work done in Partner Retreats is then integrated into annual planning and day-to-day operations. Starting with a Mission/Vision retreat accelerates the Partner work.

TESTIMONIAL

What our clients say...

“Probably the greatest benefit from my coaching relationship with Kathleen was our discussion on how to most effectively optimize my leadership skills across my various roles, so as to maximize my organizational impact. This was a perspective which literally changed the way I viewed my job. Instead of focusing on the tasks at hand, which was my natural tendency, Kathleen caused me to reflect on the strategic aspects of my job, while delivering on the details.

She also got me to recognize that in many of my roles I was being asked to serve as an agent for organizational change. This led to an analysis of the different stages of these miniprojects: formulating, gaining alignment, implementation and follow through. This was a very useful perspective which helped me deal with much of the initial negative reception that organizational initiatives encounter. She also got me to focus on delegation by being very intentional about delegating tasks and projects in the moment with high expectations.”

  • Created a tangible "vision" statement (defining corporate culture, values and highly detailed goals) and a vehicle to communicate throughout the company successfully and profitably
  • Developed a more profitable and efficient corporate structure
  • Consistently written and executed business plans for every business unit
  • Improved quality of life (dramatically) for all management levels, including reduced hours worked
  • Created consistent and satisfying relationships between all partners and managers
  • Improved senior management skills in specific areas of planning, management development and effective hiring/staff selection”

“Our Sales Department took part in a Sales Workshop conducted by Kathleen Askier. Each sales manager has their individual success stories, but in general, the Sales Training resulted in increased confidence in sales presentations, improved public speaking skills, increased consistency in our selling points and the development of more strategic relationships. We defined our clients’ wants/needs/concerns and identified our promises to them, and have begun to obtain our desired type of client. We have expedited our entire closing process, and have been consistently closing more events per period – and our average dollar amount per event has increased. Compared to last year, our referral business has increased 150%, repeat business 28%, and sales 65%. We would highly recommend Askier Business Development’s Sales Workshop to any company wanting to increase their sales department’s selling skills, resulting in increased business.”

“While I have been very successful in the design/client arena of my business, the biggest accomplishment for me in consulting with you was understanding the larger scope of running and managing a small business. My business was at a critical juncture. I needed to make significant improvements or close the business. With your support, I have put systems in place to create a more consistent sales flow and have been successful at flattening the ‘roller coaster phenomenon’ in my sales. I have a much clearer understanding of the activities that generate my business and how to manage them, and my level of awareness, competence, and facility has increased greatly.”

“The sales training and the people skills that I learned from you was priceless. Even though we changed the original goal and moved in a different direction after we worked together for a while, I am, now, more in more control of my business and the achievement of my business goals. I am able to manage both sales and production with more confidence. Through your training I learned how to make sales more predictable than just simple luck. Your training on how to manage a sales pipeline was great. Thanks again for your patience in working with me.”

“I have been working with Kathleen for a little over two years. I am a financial planner with a Registered Investment Advisory Practice. About one year after having made a career transition into this industry I came to the conclusion I needed help in establishing a gameplan and a framework to go about making my vision become a reality. I sought to find help and by providence I was introduced to Kathleen.

In my first full year of working with Kathleen I was awarded my broker dealer’s ‘Rookie of the Year’ award. In my second year I was awarded Top Production honors and qualified to become part of the President’s Advisory Council.”

“For four years, I have worked closely with Kathleen in business and product development for our company and in client service and acquisition. She is stellar in her business acumen and presentation. Kathleen has been the backbone of our ability to grow in both revenue and sales, retain long-term clients, thrive during a recessionary environment and evolve new product offerings. She is also a vital part of our executive team. Since the two founders are husband and wife, Kathleen is the third pillar in a successful triad. Our weekly meetings, which start with a brief heart check, are budget-, client-, staff-focused studies in small business success. Through a disciplined yet sustainable approach, she expands my thinking to expand our business. Kathleen has vast reservoirs of experience and knowledge, both personally and professionally. I highly value her as a colleague and friend. She is indispensable.”

“My optometry practice had been growing at a steady rate of 9% over the 15 years I had been in practice. With the support of Kathleen Askier, I have enjoyed quite unexpected success. As an optometrist, I finally learned the art of running a business, handling a staff, managing a team, writing a business plan, keeping to a budget and management of my cash flow. The result of our efforts has shown up in a 26% growth in each of my two years of affiliation. The work is not easy. The transition sometimes is not smooth, but the results are dramatic and satisfying to the entire staff.”

“The ability that you have demonstrated to see weaknesses and strengths that we have been unable to pinpoint ourselves has been incredible ... Planning and organization are not our strongest characteristics, and with your help we have been able to incorporate these imperative procedures simply and effectively. “When I began working with Kathleen Askier, I had been in business for not quite a year during a recession that had hit the building industry very hard in Northern California and many contractors were going out of business. Despite the economic conditions, we achieved increases in revenue and profit and put in place many business systems and procedures. We put together a financial tracking system including revenue and sales tracking, job costing, cash flow forecasts, budget and profit-loss from month to month, and a job tracking system that keeps us within the contracted budget. I learned how to use all these reports and respond to them, even if I didn’t like what they were saying. In sales and marketing, we improved my presentation skills, increased my closing effectiveness, put together a prospect tracking system and learned how to recover seemingly lost sales opportunities. I hired and trained an office manager and estimator and learned how to more effectively manage staff and have them succeed.”

“In working with you, we learned the value of, and grew skills in, partnership communication. We defined roles allowing each partner to take on a more professional, organized and effective approach to his/her responsibilities in production, sales and financial management, and we greatly improved our partnership by utilizing regular meetings, business reports and extensive coaching. We now communicate more clearly and precisely, know better how to support one another in accomplishing our goals and are better able to hold each other accountable for results. Your encouragement and counsel have helped us tackle these challenges and are a tremendous contribution to our ongoing and future success.”

“Until I worked with Askier Business Development, I lived in emotional upset (mainly fear). Good or poor business was a whimsical act of God. Kathleen Askier was masterful at facilitating me in positive conceptual changes regarding time management, business management, and marketing and sales. Many of these changes were challenging and painful. The result is that I now have peace of mind in my business and personal life for the first time. Until I worked with Kathleen, it was as though I was driving my car on the interstate in second gear – full throttle! Kathleen taught me how to use 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears.”

“Under Kathleen’s guidance, we came to realize that organizational and cash flow problems were just several of the many symptoms that showed up as a result of a significant growth at a level that we hadn’t previously experienced ... I believe that without the guidance, support and serious coaching that she brought to our table, our company would most likely not be where it is today!

Over a 20-year period of time, Kathleen’s commitment to our company’s ongoing prosperity and success has often seemed to exceed our own. Kathleen lives in the worlds of staying ‘on task’ and ‘on message’, even when the partners may not. She is a guiding force that continually keeps you focused on meeting your goals and commitments.”

“Within the first six months, you showed me how to put in place simple and effective tracking and planning systems for my sales, revenue, and expenses, eliminate a staff person I wasn’t able to effectively use, and you began teaching me to sell professionally. Your ability to break the tasks of management and sales into digestible pieces made it possible for me to quickly learn and effectively apply these new skills that are so vital for keeping a business going, and for giving it the power to stabilize and grow.

You also coached me to break down the project of getting my new hardware product to market into manageable steps, so that I got my patent filed, and began making and selling that product profitably.

Once again, this year you have coached me to put together a business plan that, by my own design, stretches my abilities to achieve my longest-held dreams of working conditions and income level. As always, I know and trust that you never let me set a goal I'm not able to reach, and I’m excited about collaborating with you to attain my new goals.”

“Our work together:
  • increased the value I was and am delivering to my clients
  • assisted me in putting business fundamentals into all my coaching sessions
  • helped me reduce my losses
  • greatly increased my confidence as a business coach, which is also now consistently reinforced by the results my clients are achieving in their businesses
  • helped me see the value of my work, in a way that gives me confidence to make powerful promises to potential clients
  • was a structure of support to keep deepening my learning and skills as a business coach
  • made my business coaching way more fun and less stressful
  • increased my closing ratio with potential business coaching clients

“We already had a successful law practice. What we learned was that we only had tapped the tip of the iceberg! The cumulative increase in revenues over the two years we worked with Askier Business Development was 65% ... staff turnover was reduced ... systems were set up for effective time management ... and the entire firm was trained in collections. The net result of much of the work was that we could implement management practices quickly and effectively – with long lasting effects.”

“Kathleen relentlessly focused me on tracking key data. She held me accountable for doing what I said I would do and didn’t let me off the hook. She always provided support but at the same time challenged me to learn new skills and knowledge to get out of my comfort zone. Once I got comfortable in a new zone, she would bring on another level of knowledge, skills and abilities for me to go after. She helped me learn to sell and learn to enjoy having a reliable income. I can honestly say that I went from wanting to have a business to having a successful business with systems and processes to ensure continued success.”

About Us

Askier
Business
Development,
Inc.

was founded in 1993 in Atlanta, GA and specializes in working with businesses and professional practices to significantly increase their sales, income, profit, productivity and operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Our focus
is on achievement and obtaining results for our clients, not just advising them on their business. Our clients report that we are a valuable member of their team and, while they value the increases in their sales and profits and the realization of their vision, they value their partnership with us – and the improvement in their quality of life – even more.
We have
worked in numerous industries from medical and manufacturing to hospitality and business services, and bring a wealth of experience in all areas of business, organization and people management. As our track record highlights, we get results.
Our clients
typically have been in business at least a couple of years, have a huge vision for their companies or practices, have really great products or services and are dedicated to fulfilling the vision they have for their company or professional practice. They have had good initial success in their business and know there is much more business to be had or potential for growth but have run into limitations such as these:
  • They are constantly “on their heels” – they have more “coming at them” in a day than they could ever possibly get done, even if they had a month to do a day’s worth of work. They are just not out ahead of their business.
  • They are immersed in overwhelm created by their success and know they need to put in place more management structures or systems but aren’t sure what or how to do that because that is not their skill set.
  • They have more staffing and resources needs than they have the cash to meet. Who do they hire first? What do they purchase first? How do they generate more cash?
  • They have multiple directions they can go in their growth and are not sure which way to proceed.
  • They are maxed out at their current staffing structure and need to add more staff in order to grow, but – having limited cash – aren’t sure which positions to add or which to add first.
  • They have inconsistent sales and are not confident they can meet their sales forecasts.
  • They need to hire their first manager(s) and are not confident they will know how to define the managerial role, how to find and incorporate a manager, or how to manage a manager. Alternatively, they have already hired managers assuming those managers would just take care of their departments, but the managers didn’t do the job the owners intended to be done, and they don’t know how to prevent this from happening again.
  • They have inadequate management systems – sales, operations, financial and/or staff – resulting in insufficient capacity to handle the sales volume.
  • They know there is more business to be had and think they should be getting it, yet their sales people are not bringing it in.
  • They have an inadequate view of their cash situation and have cash flow issues.
